    Squonk Opera

    Squonk Opera is a visionary ensemble of musicians and artists who create post-industrial performances using staging, design and original music. The group created their first show in 1995 in a Pittsburgh junkyard, combining cranes, roaring earthmovers and screaming machine shears in a choreography of mechanized movement. Recognized as an instant hit, they have been touring nationally and internationally ever since. Squonk Opera presents an art that includes both the cheap thrills of a monster truck show and the fragile, delicate beauty of high art.

    Piers' Personal Hell

    Piers' critiques bring up a really interesting issue about how to describe something like Squonk Opera.  Is it music?  Is it theater?  Is it art?  If you can't describe it in terms of only one art form, Piers isn't gonna go for it.  We enjoy showing people something they've never seen before, maybe even something they can't describe easily.  Something that frees you up to dream and float through your own imagination...the way Howie floated through the air at the end of the show.  Yeah, like that.
