Academy Award winners Bobby Moresco and Paul Haggis ("Crash") are the creators of NBC's "The Black Donnellys," a gritty new crime-drama series filmed in New York City and loosely based on Moresco's background. Moresco and Haggis are also the executive producers.

In 2006, at the 78th Academy Awards, Moresco and Haggis were each awarded Oscars for co-writing the breakout film of 2005, "Crash." In addition to winning in the Original Screenplay category, "Crash" won Oscars for Best Picture and Achievement in Editing.

Moresco recently wrapped shooting his directorial debut, "10th & Wolf," a coming-of-age gangster drama set in the 1980s. The film, starring James Marsden, Giovanni Ribisi, Piper Perabo, Brad Renfro, Lesley Ann Warren, Brian Dennehy and Val Kilmer, is currently in post-production.

Moresco's other projects include "Million Dollar Baby," the 2005 Academy Award winner for Best Picture, which he co-produced and developed with Haggis, as well as "Heat" and a re-make of Herb Gardner's "A Thousand Clowns."

Born in New York City in 1951 and raised in the Hell's Kitchen district of Manhattan, Moresco began studying acting with the widely respected Wynn Handman and Peggy Fuery, founders of the American Place Theatre and Loft Theatre, respectively. Around that time, Moresco opened the Actor's Gym in New York and moved the company to Los Angeles in 1978. Over the years, Moresco has written, produced and/or directed over 35 theatrical productions.

Throughout the 1990s, Moresco focused much of his time creating, writing and producing television. His notable projects included "EZ Streets," which he wrote and co-produced with creator and future partner, Haggis, and which won the "Viewers for Quality Television Award" for best program of the year, as well as "Millenium," which earned Moresco a Genesis Award. In 1998, he co-created and executive-produced the critically-acclaimed and Emmy-nominated series "Falcone," based on the movie "Donnie Brasco."

Moresco is married with two daughters and lives in Los Angeles.
