Real estate salespeople are incredibly important. What I look for in a real estate salesperson is competence and enthusiasm. They have to know what they are doing, know their market, keep up with it on a daily basis, and be thorough. The best real estate salespeople love what they are doing. That's of primary importance. If you love what you are doing, every aspect of it will appeal to you and interest you. Clients can sense that level of competence and will trust a salesperson with integrity.
Susan James, who runs my sales office at Trump International Hotel & Tower, is one of the most elegant people you will ever meet, and her elegance isn't an act. Neither is her integrity. She remains friends with her clients for many years after they are happily ensconced in their apartments. She is clear about what she is presenting to her clients before, during, and after, and it's clear that she cares about what she's doing. That's the mark of a great broker, and she's a perfect example.
