Fun fact: Takei was part of the team that initiated and planned the Los Angeles subway system.

After spending most of his childhood with his family in Japanese internment camps, Takei returned to his native Los Angeles to begin a distinguished acting career which has spanned five decades. Takei once ran for Mayor of Los Angeles, and remains politically active, receiving the Order of the Rising Sun from Emperor Akihito in 2004 for his contributions to U.S.-Japanese relations. Currently, Takei enjoys recurring appearances as announcer for "The Howard Stern Show," making use of his impressive stentorian voice.
