Zach
Braff

as John "J.D." Dorian
Zach Braff has distinguished himself from his peers -- not only as an actor, but also as a writer and director. For his portrayal of the quirky Dr. John "J.D." Dorian in NBC’s comedy "Scrubs” Braff was nominated for a 2005 Emmy Award and a 2005 and 2006 Golden Globe award.

In 2004 Braff made his feature-film writing and directorial debut with the critically acclaimed “Garden State.” Pulling triple duty on “Garden State,” Braff also played the lead role among a cast that includes Natalie Portman, Peter Sarsgaard, Ian Holm and Method Man. “Garden State” debuted at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival in Utah leading to a successful theatrical release later that year. The film has also garnered numerous awards and Braff received a coveted Writers Guild of America nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

The film has also garnered Braff an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature as well as a nomination for Best First Screenplay. In addition, Braff was awarded Best Directorial Debut by the National Board of Review, Breakthrough Director by the Hollywood Film Festival and Most Promising Filmmaker by the Chicago Film Critics Association and a Grammy Award for his handpicked soundtrack, which included songs by Simon and Garfunkel, Coldplay and Frou Frou.

Braff’s filmography includes roles in “The Broken Hearts Club,” “Getting to Know You,” and “Manhattan Murder Mystery” in which he plays Woody Allen and Diane Keaton’s son. He recently was heard as the voice of the title character in Disney’s hit 3-D animated film “Chicken Little.” Braff can also be seen in the upcoming Dreamworks’ feature “The Last Kiss” and the Weinstein Company’s “Fast Track.”

On the stage Braff was part of the New York City’s Public Theater productions of “Twelfth Night” and “Macbeth” with Alec Baldwin and Angela Bassett.

Currently, Braff is co-writing (with his brother Adam) a film adaptation of the children’s book, “Andrew Henry’s Meadow,” which he will also executive-produce.
A native of New Jersey and a graduate of Northwestern University’s film program, Braff studied theater acting while writing and directing his own short films. His birthday is April 6.
