New Zealander Pamela Stephenson was born in 1949. After graduating from Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Arts, she launched a successful career as an actress and comedienne. She became a popular figure in Australia, known for her wild antics, both on screen and off. In 1976, she left her home country and moved to London to take various roles on London stages. As a cast member of the popular British TV show, "Not the Nine O'Clock News," she met her future husband, comedian Billy Connolly - they married in 1989.
Los Angeles beckoned and she took a few acting jobs in Hollywood movies ("History of the World Part I," "Superman III") before joining SNL for a year beginning in 1984. She retired from acting a few years later to pursue a degree in psychology, eventually earning her doctorate in clinical psychology in 1996. Currently, Stephenson is in private practice and is an adjunct professor at the California Graduate Institute, as well as a noted author and researcher.
