Janeane Garofalo appeared on SNL for a single, notorious season in 1994, but it's her work as a comic actor, writer, and standup comedian that she is best known for.
Garofalo was born in New Jersey in 1964 but grew up in Texas. She began doing comedy at local clubs while studying at Providence College. It was during this period that she developed her trademark cynicism and self-deprecating wit. Roles on "The Ben Stiller Show" and "The Larry Sanders" show followed, leading to her casting by SNL.
Upon leaving the show, she returned to standup and to acting in the movies. Currently, she is a political humorist with a show on "Air America," a radio network focused on left wing issues that also features Al Franken, another SNL vet.
