Once upon a time, there was a famous comedy duo named "Bob and Ray." Bob Elliott and Ray Gould even had their own radio show for decades: The Bob and Ray Show. What, you ask, does this have to do with SNL alum Chris Elliott? Bob Elliott, of course, is Chris's father. With genes like that, it's no wonder that Elliott-the-younger decided to pursue a career in comedy.
Born in 1965, he got his professional start as a writer for "Late Night with Dave Letterman." Soon, he was making appearances on the show as a variety of wacky characters: Regulator Guy, Fugitive Guy, Guy Under the Seats, and even as actor Marlon Brando. Roles in a few other TV shows followed and in 1990, his own show "Get a Life" premiered. Though it only lasted for two seasons, it has gained cult status over the years and has become an influence on many other sitcoms.
His attempt at leading man status in the comedy movie "Cabin Boy" failed to attract much attention, though like his TV show, it too has become something of a cult classic. In 1994, he joined SNL for a single season. After leaving the show, he has continued to work regularly in movies and in television.
