"This job has great perks!"
Six years ago, Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald landed the job of her dreams when she was hired as the personal assistant to socialite Ivy Winthrop Crane. Theresa had loved Ivy's handsome son, Ethan Crane, from afar, and this job finally brought her into close proximity to her life-long crush. Theresa always believed fate would bring her and Ethan together... and it did, thanks in part to Ivy's dubious hiring skills. Ethan and Theresa proceeded to fall passionately in love, despite the fact that he was already involved with Gwen Hotchkiss.
"Is it surprising to know Pilar always lost when playing hide-and-seek?"
At his engagement party to Gwen, Ethan prepared to call off the wedding because of his feelings for Theresa. However, Gwen's ferociously protective mother, Rebecca, overheard what he was planning and manipulated Theresa into thinking Ethan had just been stringing her along for fun. Heartbroken, Theresa decided to leave town. While packing a suitcase she took from her mother, Theresa came across some private documents Ivy had given Pilar for safekeeping. (Pilar was Ivy's housekeeper and long-time confidante.) As Theresa perused Ivy's pictures and letters, she was thunderstruck to learn Ethan wasn't a Crane after all! As teenagers, Ivy and Police Chief Sam Bennett had a steamy, clandestine love affair, which was cut short when her father tricked her into marrying the powerful Julian Crane. Ivy got pregnant by Sam, but led everyone to believe Ethan was Julian's son so he could inherit the Crane empire. The impetuous Theresa scanned all this information into her laptop intending to expose the truth, but then had a change of heart. Theresa was about to leave Harmony for good when Ethan tracked her down, told her he dumped Gwen, and declared his eternal love for her.
"I did wonder why Ivy would've had a Backstreet Boys screensaver..."
Eventually, Rebecca figured out Ethan was Sam's son. However, in order to become the new Mrs. Julian Crane, she needed proof to blow Ivy completely out of the water. She searched Theresa's laptop thinking it was Ivy's and - score! - found the files Theresa scanned. Rebecca made a copy onto a disk and shared her findings with her daughter. Gwen realized it was actually Theresa's laptop, meaning Theresa knew about Ethan's paternity all this time and didn't tell him. Gwen jumped on this opportunity to destroy her rival. Not wanting to get their hands dirty, the scheming Hotchkiss women anonymously e-mailed a tabloid the shocking information from Theresa's computer.
"Was Ethan also a two-headed alien baby?"
At Ethan and Theresa's engagement party, a tabloid reporter showed a stunned Julian the headline, "Crane Secret Revealed! Ethan Crane is Sam Bennett's Son!" An apoplectic Julian exposed Ivy's betrayal to the whole town and denounced Ethan as his son. Alistair quickly turned his back on his "grandson" as well. Lost without his identity as a Crane, Ethan vowed to destroy whoever ruined his life. Theresa wanted to tell her fiancé she had known about his paternity, but she was too afraid.
"Father Lonigan is going to be so mad when he sees... oh, wait, nevermind."
Months later, Ethan and Theresa planned a beautiful double wedding with Luis and Sheridan. A desperate Gwen made an anonymous call to the tabloid, identifying Theresa, Ethan's own fiancée, as the person responsible for sending the e-mail. The tabloid reporter ran the story, and on Ethan and Theresa's wedding day, Ivy ended up with an advanced copy. Mama Winthrop was livid and raced to the church to stop her beloved son from marrying Theresa. In dramatic fashion, Ivy crashed her car through the wall of the church in time to halt the ceremony. As Ivy told Ethan his bride-to-be stabbed him in the back, Theresa looked on in horror. Theresa was forced to admit she knew Ethan was a Bennett and didn't tell him, but swore she was innocent of sending the e-mail. A disbelieving Ethan was devastated and never quite trusted her the same way again.
"I can't wait to tell everyone, 'I told you so!'"
Although his love for Theresa never died, Ethan eventually resumed his relationship with Gwen and married her. Theresa has long suspected Gwen and Rebecca framed her but could never prove it. Now that the disk has resurfaced, will Theresa finally get the proof she needs to win back Ethan?
Theresa scanned Ivy's documents that proved Ethan's paternity onto her laptop, and then Rebecca later saved them to a disk. Among the items was a letter Ivy wrote to Sam but never sent. Click here to see a copy of Ivy's confession.
