Miguel and Kay History 101
Miguel’s back! In case you aren’t familiar with Miguel and his long history with Kay, or you just want to refresh your memory, here’s a crash course in this twisty tale of unrequited love, outrageous deception... and skanky zombies.
I. The Early Years: B.C. (Before Charity)
Kay Bennett had been in love with Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald practically since they were in diapers. Miguel was oblivious to her crush even though she conspired to spend every waking minute with him, even joining the softball team to be by his side. Despite Kay’s persistent efforts, the clueless hunk only saw her as his best buddy. Boys are stupid.
II. The Blonde Plague
Kay’s world came crashing down when her sweet cousin, Charity, arrived in Harmony and immediately caught Miguel’s eye. To Kay’s horror, Miguel and Charity quickly became the most lovey-dovey duo at Harmony High. A manipulative Kay did everything she could to break up the happy couple. She even tried to take advantage of Charity’s temporary amnesia when her cousin was injured in a fire. Kay subliminally planted warnings in Charity’s mind to stay away from Miguel. Her plot failed as Charity’s life was constantly in danger (thanks to Tabitha), and Miguel was always ready and willing to be her knight in shining armor. The two lovebirds fell deeper in love. A frustrated Kay tried to confess her feelings to her life-long crush, but he never quite seemed to understand what she meant. (This happened several times.) Along the way, Miguel innocently revealed he would’ve started dating Kay if Charity hadn’t come to town, which only fueled Kay’s hatred for her cousin.
III. Med-Evil Times
Fearing she would lose Miguel forever, Kay did what any sensible young woman in her situation would do – she sold her soul to a witch named Hecuba in exchange for help in winning Miguel’s love. Hecuba opened a portal to hell through Charity’s bedroom closet, and Kay secretly allowed her cousin to be dragged inside by ghastly demons. Kay’s invitation for evil to come over and make itself at home caused horrific problems for many people in Harmony. However, in the end, Miguel came to Charity’s rescue, and Kay eventually got her (tainted) soul back.
IV. The Ice Age
Not having learned her lesson, Kay summoned the dark side once again to make Miguel hers. Kay cast a spell to turn Charity into a human ice-cube and created an evil zombie look-alike to masquerade as her angelic cousin. Zombie Charity was supposed to dump Miguel and push him towards Kay’s waiting arms, but Zombie had a mind (and libido) of her own. Zombie Charity decided she wanted to have sex with Miguel, which would have the unfortunate side effect of killing him. Kay managed to beat Zombie to the punch by obtaining a vial of Charity’s essence. She used the essence to make Miguel think she was Charity, and the two made love. Miguel was stunned and confused when he realized he had sex with Kay. Kay, of course, was bitterly disappointed by his reaction.
V. The Waterbreak Scandal
After the zombie was defeated and Charity thawed out, Miguel proposed to his beloved girlfriend. Kay fumed that she was foiled once again. However, the young schemer interrupted Miguel and Charity’s wedding ceremony with a doozy of a bombshell – she was pregnant with the groom’s baby! Months later, Maria Ivy Lopez-Fitzgerald was born, bonding Kay and Miguel forever.
VI. The Great Depression
Still, Miguel loved Charity and swore he intended to spend the rest of his life with her. However, Maria fell ill and Charity made a pact with Death to save the baby’s life. In return, Charity was forced to give up her man. Adding fuel to the fire, Tabitha convinced the do-gooder she was bad luck to everyone who loved her, and so a heartbroken Charity fled Harmony. Before Kay had time break out the champagne, Miguel announced he was leaving town to chase after his true love. A tearful Kay begged Miguel not to leave, but he took off, leaving Kay to raise their infant daughter alone.
VII. The Age of Enlightenment
A lot has happened since Miguel’s been gone... Kay stopped scheming and focused on being a responsible single mom. She also fell in love with Fox Crane, and he has become a father figure to Maria. Kay is itching to accept Fox’s marriage proposal... but will her feelings change once Miguel returns to Harmony? Stay tuned, history buffs...
