Emily Harper (Fancy Crane)
Fancy has been on an emotional rollercoaster ever since she landed in Rome. First she was broken up with Noah, and then they got back together, and then they broke up again, and then... Luis kissed her! We had a heart-to-heart with Emily Harper about her character’s complicated love life.
So what did Fancy think of that kiss with Luis?
First and foremost there was the utter shock of it all. And then Noah’s right there, and they’ve been fighting so that makes it even more awkward. So there was shock and then awkwardness and then it was kinda nice! (Laughs) Then they pull back, and Fancy realizes that Luis thinks she’s her Aunt Sheridan. It almost becomes comical to Fancy, and she brushes it off.
Do you foresee something romantic happening between Fancy and Luis?
Galen (Gering; Luis) and I don’t know. We have no idea where the writers are going with this. It’s kind of exciting for us to read what’s happening next. Luis is overprotective of her because of the danger from Beth. He’s become Fancy’s bodyguard. So they definitely start bonding and building a friendship. They are growing closer, but as far as a romantic relationship, I think Fancy is hesitant because he was almost her uncle.
It’s almost incestuous in a way.
Almost! But needless to say, he and Fancy are the walking wounded. They have totally two different stories, but they find common ground and connect.
What about Noah? Can he and Fancy ever work things out?
I think so, although it’s hard to say. If Fancy can trust Noah again, then yes. But Noah has a lotta ‘splainin to do! (Laughs) Fancy is a little enamored of Luis but she’s trying to hold it back. So I don’t know... there’s a big fork in the road for our storyline right now.
What have you enjoyed most about the Rome adventure so far?
Well, I was joking with our Executive Producer, “Too bad it wasn’t on location!” (Laughs) I like it because everyone’s storylines are crossing paths. I’m getting to work with actors who I don’t normally get to work with. Charles (Divins; Chad), Brook (Kerr; Whitney), Kelli (McCarty; Beth)... It can be hilarious at times. It keeps material fresh for the actors, learning how to play off different characters and learning more about your own character through that.
Fancy speaks fluent Italian. Are you really fluent?
Not at all! I know not a lick of Italian! (Laughs) I did practice though. Our stage manager, Jay, speaks Italian pretty fluently and we’ve had a lot of extras and U/5’s who speak Italian. So I was always pulling them aside in between scenes, asking them, “How do you say this?” I took French in high school and I travel to Mexico a lot so I can get by in Spanish, but not Italian.
Fancy also has a clothing line out. Which item do you like the most?
I love all the items, and I’m not just saying that. I think it’s so cool, the whole website, especially the way Fancy enters her diaries to Theresa. The clothes are all reasonably priced. My favorite skirt is the black one with the silver beading on it. You can wear it in the summertime with flip-flops and a T-shirt during the day. Or you can wear it at night and dress it up for clubs. And I love the pink top with the gold trim.
You’ve been on the show for a year now. What stands out in your mind as your most memorable moment from the show?
There are so many. That fish scene was incredible. [Fancy was dumped into a vat of fish and nearly suffocated.] I didn’t have much dialogue, and it wasn’t really acting because it was freaking me out! People teased me that it was my initiation to “Passions” because it was within my first couple months.
Did the fish smell really bad?
Oh, completely. I smelled like fish for two days. I had to use lemon juice in the shower like five times a day! It was pretty bad. Oh, and the location stuff in Vegas was memorable, too. Dylan and I just started and we were getting to know each other. There were long days because we had a lot to shoot. And there were audio problems so we learned about looping right away. It was like the boot camp of acting, they just threw us into everything. It was the best way to learn though.
You have another location shoot coming up...
I won’t say what happens, but it’s fantastically crazy though. Is fantastically a word? (Laughs) It’s a big action sequence.
