Rene Echevarria serves as executive producer of NBC's hit drama series "Medium."
Echevarria got his start in theatre. He studied drama at Duke University and moved to New York City upon graduating, where he was invited to join the Circle Repertory Lab Company. He went on to become involved in productions at Theatre for the New City, The Chelsea Theater, and the famed La Mama Theater Company. His play "Prepared" was presented at the Word's End Theater in London and went on to be performed at the Edinburgh Festival.
He got his start writing for television on "Star Trek: The Next Generation." He was executive story editor for the show's sixth and seventh seasons, for which it received an Emmy nomination for Best Dramatic Series. Echevarria moved on to the spin-off series "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," where he served as a producer. His many episodes of "Star Trek" have garnered him a Humanitas nomination, a Peabody nomination, two Hugo nominations, and a NASA Vision Award for Best Depiction of Humanity's Future in Space. Along with fellow Star Trek producer, Ken Biller, he developed the scenario for "Star Trek: The Experience," a theme park attraction built by Paramount Parks at the Las Vegas Hilton.
After leaving "Star Trek," Echevarria worked with Glenn Gordon Caron on the short-lived, but critically acclaimed series "Now and Again," where he served as supervising producer. He went on to executive produce James Cameron's "Dark Angel" and "MDs." He co-created the Emmy- nominated "The 4400," which is currently in its third year on USA network. Echevarria reunited with "Now and Again" creator Glenn Gordon Caron to work on "Medium."
