Warren Leight is the executive producer and head writer of “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” Dick Wolf’s third installment of the “Law and Order” brand, the second-longest running drama series in the history of television.
“Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” which entered its sixth season in September 2006, takes viewers into the minds of its criminals while following the psychological approaches the Major Case Squad uses to solve the crimes. Detective Mike Logan (Chris Noth) and his new partner, Detective Megan Wheeler (Julianne Nicholson), make up the Major Case Squad alongside long-time partners Detectives Robert Goren (Vincent D’Onofrio) and Alexandra Eames (Kathryn Erbe). The two Major Case Squad detective teams split the caseloads week to week.
Leight has written for “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” since 2003. Two of his episodes were nominated for Edgar Awards for Best One Hour Mystery. He also has written for Sydney Lumet’s “100 Centre Street.”
His playwriting credits include “Side Man,” which received the 1999 Tony Award for Best Play, and was a 1999 Pulitzer Prize finalist and “No Foreigners Beyond This Point,” which was produced by the Ma-Yi Theatre and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award in 2005. In spring 2007, his new play “James and Annie” will be presented by the Drama Department. Other plays include “Fame Takes a Holiday,” “Glimmer, Glimmer and Shine,” “The Loop” and the book to the musical “Mayor.” “Dark, No Sugar,” his new collection of one-act plays, will be published by DPS this year. “Stray Cats,” his collection of monologues, is also published by DPS. Leight is an enthusiastic supporter of the 24-hour play festival and has contributed a number of one-acts to the cause. He also wrote and directed “The Night We Never Met,” co-wrote the documentary “Before the Nickelodeon” (featured in the New York Film Festival) and has authored many screenplays including “Dear God.”
Leight was the former president of the Writer’s Guild of America, East, and is a current member of both the Writer’s Guild and the Dramatists’ Guild councils. This year he was honored with the Richard B. Jablow Award for devoted service to the Writer’s Guild of America, East.
Warren was raised in New York City. He is a graduate of Stanford University.
