EPISODE 409

It's been a couple of weeks since we posted, so there are a few things to talk about.

The night of the first live show was amazing. The capacity at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium is about 2500 and it was packed. On top of that, more than 1000 people were turned away. The atmosphere was unbelievable, with every comic given a standing ovation when they took the stage and again when they left. It put the online sniping in perspective. There are millions of people who love this show. This is not to say that the show or the format is perfect, or that we are the greatest producers in the world, but just that it is a pretty exciting moment as a producer to come face to face with that many viewers who really appreciate the show.

Alright, as Anthony Clark would say, "It's time to get down to business".

So as always, here are answers to some of your questions, and our weekly opportunity to give a bit of crap back to the whiners. Seeing as it's been 2 weeks, there is a lot to get through:

A lot of people have posted about Gabriel, and several were really mad about what happened. Hey, we feel your pain. If you think we wanted to get rid of him you are crazy, he's a fabulous comic.

"Joey From Idaho" wrote:
"Hey all! So I have been watching the reruns of the show on Bravo because I refuse to watch when it first airs because I want to keep the ratings down."

Dan responds:
Nice work, Joey, you are really sticking it to NBC. NBC owns Bravo. That's like trying to take down Amtrak by buying a round trip ticket and not coming back.

Last week I brought up the fact that in amongst the usual bile, anger and hatred were a lot of positive comments. I guess I should have expected the response I got from "Are you kidding - again?", who wrote:
"WOW - 50% of the comments were positive.

Not such a smart thing to say, as it just proves that you lost a significant viewership. Give any thought to the fact that SOOO many people do not care anyomre that you hit 50%. Don't break your hand patting yourselves on the back because eventually when the viewership is just you guys, Dan & Jane, you will have 100% positive comments. You won't have anyone watching the show ... but I am sure that is just a small point to overlook.

Kicking off Gabriel is sure to lose you enough people to sit you at 75% positive comments in a few weeks. Way to go again !!

Here's a 100% positive comment: I am 100% positive you and the show suck."

Dan responds:
Apologies for not making the show to your exact specifications, but out here in the real world Last Comic Standing is a popular successful show with millions of viewers who tune in every week, even when the All Star game is on. The show is not losing viewers. Sorry - you can get all mad and stamp your foot, but people are not leaving the show, and that's not patting myself on the back it's the truth.

Moving on… it's good to see that our personal appearance has been restored to its rightful place in the agenda of things to comment about.

"Leslie" writes:
I applaud Jane's plain jane Little House on the Prarie look, Hollywood is filled with siliconed, botoxed, made up fakers. I like that Jane isn't playing that game so much. She is pretty on the outside. But...is she pretty on the inside? Or is she the Anne Coulter of comedy....?

Jane responds:
Ahhh, finally a posting worth responding to. Thank you Leslie, I commend you on your insightful comment. And I assure you I am no Anne Coulter - I am as liberal as they come, so for all you lunatics that voted for George Bush feel free to add that to your list of complaints when responding.

And there's more: "Gaffaw" writes:
Hey, Bob and Jane. Thank God you're not Dick and Jane…

PS Don't worry about smiling. You're both like really cute and I'm sure full of bubbly personality both laughing from the inside. I see it! It's in the eyes.

Jane responds:
Actually thank god we're not Bob and Jane either. My partner's name is Dan. That aside, this is another brilliant posting worth responding to. Thank you Guffaw. You are correct, we are laughing on the inside that is when we're not busy being "complete tools" (see our reviews below).

Now that the voting has started, the conspiracy theories have begun to go into full effect. "LilacSpryte" writes:

Ok look, I like this show, I have my favorites, and I have my cell ready with the number punched in at the end of the show. "Lines are now open..." so I hit my "send" on my phone. "We're sorry, but you've already reached your calling limit from this number. Goodbye." WHAT?!?!?!?! I hadn't even called ONCE!!!!!!!!!

PROOF THAT THIS SHOW IS ENTIRELY RIGGED. I HAVE TO WONDER TOO WHEN YOU VOTE ONLINE, AND THEY ASK FOR YOUR PHONE NUMBER..... ARE THEY TAKING IT AND PUTTING IN SOME SORT OF PROGRAM TO KEEP YOU FROM VOTING FOR THE ONE YOU WANT INSTEAD OF THE ONE THEY WANT??????

IT'S ALL RIGGED!!!!!!!!!

Dan responds:
Seriously, I will pass this on to our phone people. But I do want to address this rigging issue. What would anyone other than the comics possibly have to gain from rigging the vote? So far the winners of this competition are Dat Phan, John Heffron and Alonzo Bodden. They all have very successful careers as stand up comics, but I haven't noticed NBC fast-tracking any sitcom vehicles for any of them.

The conspiracy theories even extend to this very blog: "Flog the Blog" writes:
Hey Bloggers,
Whenever you insult the comics - that get's posted. But, if you insult the producers (Jane Lipsitz, Dan Cutforth, Barry Katz, Peter Engall) - those posts get removed. Try it. Very interesting.

Dan responds:
Are you serious? Try this posting for size. Someone called "james" decided to review everyone connected with the show (apart from Jane who was spared for some reason). The posting is as follows:

REVIEWS:
DAN CUTFORTH (Producer of the Show): A total complete unoriginal talentless unfunny unwitty lame pretentious fake hack. "Go do your homework." That is an arrogant, condescending, and not funny comment.
PETER ENGALL, Producer, Demonic greedy troll from under a bridge.
BARRY KATZ, Coat tail rider. Power hungry Hollywood poser type.
TONIGHT SHOW JUDGES. They are so proud of themselves for being on TV. They are pawns of the corporate empire...and they don't know it....so they look stupid.
ROZ Likeable. Wish her the very best.

If they are pulling insults about us, they must be the kind that end in death threats. However, it gave us the idea for a great poster advertising Jane and me and the great job we do producing the show, with pull quotes about us. Imagine the pictures above with some copy like this:

DAN AND JANE

IN "THE PRODUCERS"

- THE REVIEWS ARE IN… AND THE CRITICS ARE UNANIMOUS:

"Dan and Jane are complete tools "

"they are full of it. Definitely… unethical… Sick Mo-fo's… creep-o-ramas"

"demonic greedy souls who engage in manipulation and deception"

"guilty of crimes against humanity"

Enjoy your week. And remember we couldn't write this blog without your completely crazy and offensive postings.
