EPISODE 405

Evening all. Finally had time to read the responses to the first blog and it seems that a few people out there are a little bit pissed off. Some people don't like the comics that were picked. Mostly Stella came in for some very unkind criticism, but seeing as she is out of the running now, it seems a little pointless to rehash all of that. Some people don't like the format of the show and don't care about seeing comics living in a house together. Seeing as the first house episode has now aired, let's talk about the house. It's not up to us, but we like the house episodes.

Hardcore stand-up comedy fans will argue that the first two thirds of every house episode has nothing to do with comedy. We would argue that putting down hecklers is a part of being a good comic, and that a lot of comics are competitive and think they are funnier than other comics. No doubt we will hear your opinions of the house format following this episode. However, a lot of people would get bored if they just saw stand up comedy routines week after week from the same people. It's not like we can do an American Idol thing and say "this week you will be working with Steven Wright. This is your opportunity to take his most famous bits, and give them your spin".

Some of you got a little personal in your criticism. Sorry there isn't time to respond to everyone, but here is a quick sampling of a few of them with our rebuttals:

"Chaz" writes:
The name of the show is 'Last Comic Standing' right? You know what the name should be? Here ya go: 'Dan and Jane Stink at Picking the Funniest Comedians'. Why did you guys blow it again? Did you not learn from previous seasons? Are you really that dumb? I seriously hope this show gets cancelled after next week. Then I hope you guys go home and cry. Then I hope you ask yourselves why you were so stupid AGAIN. Nice job ruining the show. Complete dodo-brains.

Dan responds:
Dodo-brains? Ouch. Thanks for giving us all the credit for ruining the show, but we are just part of a group of dodo-brains that all works together to ruin the show (see previous blog for details). Did we not learn from previous seasons? Learn what? After the housemates were picked for season 2 the boards lit up like a Christmas tree with complaints about the comics chosen. People said Gary Gulman didn't deserve to be there and was only picked because he was good looking. Turns out he won two head to heads and ended up in the final 3 that America voted for. People said Bonnie and Ant shouldn't have been picked but they were both great characters on the show, and Ant almost won the wild card. If you don't think the house episodes are funny, tune in for the last 10 minutes or tune into According to Jim and Rodney for your Tuesday evening mirth.

"Sally" writes:
You are also missing the point when you say 'whether or not you agree with the choices you get to pick the winner'... That's Condensing. Thank you for that.

Dan responds:
Apologies if you felt condensed to. I was not trying to be condescending. However, just now I was.

"Dan & Jane couldn't be more wrong" writes:
A show about comedy should be funny, not be "cast" for dramatic housemate moments. DOUG BENSON was robbed! He had me laughing out loud like Tim Meadows! Can we trade in Stella and the red headed chick that also sucked for Doug and Nikki? Any response Dan & Jane?

"Dan & Jane" respond:
We agree that a show about comedy should be funny and we think it is. Part of what makes LCS funny is stand up comedy but like all entertaining shows part of it is casting. You do realize that American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance are cast too, right? Comedy is a little more subjective than singing and dancing. So not everyone is going to like the people who get picked whether it's for the top 40 or the winner. If you watched next week and it was a boring cast we're pretty sure we'd hear from you on that topic as well.

P.S. We love Doug Benson too and if you care about him you can go support him in the online competition.

"Ugly" writes:
Nice picture Jane. Ever heard of MAKEUP! Do you have teeth?

Jane responds:
Thanks ugly, so glad you brought this up as it clearly gets to the crux of the problem with Last Comic Standing. I actually lost all my teeth in a childhood accident and that is why Stella made it into the house.

"Conny in Ohio" writes:
wow,Dan and Jane you can't even smile, the embarassent really does show, lmao

Dan responds:
Is Imao a word or one of those internet acronyms that I haven't come across yet like LOL or ICSE (I can't spell embarrassment)?

"Hanson" writes:
I hope you get cancelled. And cancer.

Dan responds:
Wow you clearly aren't a big believer in karma. But at least we now know what Taylor, Zac and Ike are doing with their spare time. I liked you better when you had long hair and practiced rollerblading.

So what are you mad about this week? We can't wait to find out. This time though, let's control our fury, take a little time, and work on the grammar and spelling before hitting "send".
