Eventually settling on writing, he received a Master of Fine Arts degree from New York University and went to work as a playwright. Thompson's theater credits include "Small Town Syndrome," "Cowboy's Don't Cry" and "Private Hells."

His feature credits include "The Fast and the Furious," starring Vin Diesel, the sequel, "2 Fast 2 Furious," "Hollow Man" with Kevin Bacon, and the cult classic "Split Second." Thompson wrote and produced the upcoming "88 Minutes," starring Al Pacino.
