PLAYING PETER

What appealed to you about Peter Petrelli as a character?

There was a lot. He wasn't like a lot of the characters that I've played on television in the past couple years. He has a lot more depth and he's a little more caring of people around him. He has a lot of heart, but he isn't a pushover. He has drive, he has dreams -- there was just a lot. Just the fact that he got to fly -- I thought, "Well, that's kind of cool." I just saw this dynamic relationship between Nathan and Peter, and it was Peter aiding his brother Nathan and discovering that he could fly. It wasn't until a couple of months later, after the show had been picked up and we were all in New York at the upfronts, and Tim [Kring] walked up to me and he had a big smile on his face and said, "I think we've figured out Peter." And then he dove into his explanation of what Peter's ability was. In the pilot episode, he doesn't fly so much as plummet! He's showing his brother Nathan that [Nathan] has the power to do that, to fly. My character is an empath. He feels people's true emotions and their true potential.



What are your favorite Peter Petrelli scenes?

How can you rate a favorite? They're all pretty good and they all explore different things. It's hard to pick. I think there were definitely moments I had with all the actors. To be a character that got to work with almost everybody -- I worked with Hayden, I worked with Jack, I worked with Sendhil, I worked with Masi, I worked with Zach, Adrian, Greg, Ali -- I worked with everybody. That was the fun for me, was to just jump around.
