Cheetah Pride

Dancers, Actors, Doctors, Mechanics, cosmetologists, future business leaders, chefs and construction workers, sounds like a normal day of high school to me. My school is Gloucester County Institute of Technology or GCIT. GCIT isn’t like every other school, it’s a county technical school where the students have to apply and be selected, just like college. Our mascot, the cheetah, exemplifies our motto, the fast track to success. Don’t be fooled by our hard working academic excellence, we work just as hard in every competition. The reason our mascot is better then every other mascot in the U.S.A. is that the cheetah has to cheer for sports, extra curricular activities, and our academy challenges. You may ask yourself, what is an academic challenge? An academic challenge is when your academy competes against other students to see who knows their trade the best. For example, our culinary arts program enters cooking competitions and our allied health program enters in competitions where they are quizzed on their knowledge of the medical field. Every academy allows students to enter in these kinds of competitions. Our cheetah mascot has to keep the whole school spirited for these kinds of competitions. He has to pump the student body up, making them want to support the competitors.
Now our technical school doesn’t only compete in academic challenges. They also have regular high school sports, but GCIT sports are a little different then regular high school sports. You may ask yourself, how can it be different. Well, at GCIT just became a regular school because before last year it was a share-time school. This mean in the Junior and Senior levels we only have about one hundred and fifty students each. Now do you understand? The cheetahs do not have much of a selection. Where in most schools, you have a large selection of athletes to build an expert team. We do not even have enough for a cuts and try-outs. Naturally we do not have that good of varsity and JV sports teams. For example, our varsity girl’s basketball is almost done their season and they haven’t even won a game, making them last in our division! Now, don’t think that this would put the cheetah spirit down! Our mascot makes sure that our school stays spirited and supportive of our sports teams. Before the second semester at GCIT nobody knew anything about our sports teams success or even failure. Our school, then began giving morning announcements to make sure our students support our teams. Now, the students at GCIT are completely and utterly behind everyone of our athletic teams and of course, academic challenge participants!
If GCIT were to win this contest the money would go to wonderful causes. You see, our mascot needs new threads and our academic challenges could use a little more financial support. Our sports teams could also use the boost for the new season. The Gloucester County Institute of Technology is a great opportunity for my educational and athletic experience. I plan on joining the softball team (winner of last years technical states) this coming year and have already joined the 2007 cheetah tennis team. Please, help my school keep up our spirit and make me the next mascot spirit competition winner!
