Bio - Mary Harron was born in Ontario, Canada to a very artistic family. Her father is an actor, author, director, comedian and writer and her stepmother was an actress discovered by Stanley Kubrick.
Mary moved to England and attended Oxford. It was there she dated the future Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Tony Blair. Later on, Mary moved to New York City and became heavily fixated on the growing punk rock scene and founded Punk magazine, where she became the first American journalist to interview the Sex Pistols for an American publication.
Mary turned her passion for writing into a passion for filmmaking. Her first film was "I Shot Andy Warhol," then she took on the highly controversial "American Psycho." She enjoyed basing her films on deconstructing gender roles in society. The last film she directed, "The Notorious Bettie Page," continued in this vein.
