Zach Cohen and Angela Nolfi
Season Premiere Winners
What did you think when you learned you'd be playing for up to a million dollars?
Zach: My initial thought was that if people normally have to eat tons of
bugs for the usual prize of 50 thousand bucks, then how much could they
possibly make us eat for a million dollars? The irony is that we didn't
have to eat a single thing to win!! We got pretty lucky with this whole
experience. We were lucky to get on the show, lucky to be competing for
a million dollars, lucky to win, and most importantly, lucky to NOT EAT
Angela: I tried not to think about it, because I couldn't imagine such a prize
and did not want to jinx it. I wanted to focus on the means, not the
Do you think you and your partner worked well together in the challenges? Why or why not?
Zach: Absolutely, I think the single most under-rated
strategy for winning on fear factor in a team format is choose your
partner wisely. This decision is likely the most profound choice a
competitor makes. It's like getting married. The real question is
whether she/he has the desire, mental toughness, and sheer strength
to win. That's why I endearingly call angela...."MANGELA" because she
has the will to win, and of course strong shoulders as she carried me
through the competition!
Angela: I knew we would be a great team, because we both have a lot of energy
and get very excited together about what we are doing. Although we are
both big spazzes, one of us always tends to relax while the other is
freaking out, so I knew that we would balance each other out in the
What was the toughest challenge...and how gross/creepy was that vent
Zach: The toughest challenge was the vent crawl as we had
absolutely no idea what to expect. My imagination ran crazy wild before
entering the shaft. I had one competitor, Charlie, whispering to me that
the rats were a foot long and BITE! Then, I had Laura, telling me that
the tarantulas would try to bite your eyes! I really think they got into
Angela's head b/c she was literally shaking before the stunt and she
closed her eyes throughout the entire vent crawl.....!
Angela: For me, definitely the vent crawl, because I was so afraid that I would
see a huge, hairy tarantula and just freeze in my tracks from fear.
That is why I kept my eyes closed and head down!
What surprised you most about your Fear Factor experience?
Zach: I have a
gut feeling that the audience was pulling for us because we were real
underdogs. I pinch myself every freakin' day because I went on the show
with the simple goal of not being eliminated in the first stunt. Like my
mom always said, "Keep your tippy toes on the ground, and reach for the
stars!" We, the pencil pushin' lawyers battled Athletes, Police
Officers, Miss Olympia winners, etc. It was like David vs. Goliath and
in this episode, David stole more than a quarter million dollars of gold
from Goliath's back pocket!
Angela: I was surprised at how well we got along with the other contestants, we
really made some good friends out of the experience, and I could not
believe how genuinely nice everyone was even afterwards. Also, I was
surprised at how much I enjoyed the helicopter stunt, I never thought I
could ever go sky-diving or anything like that, but now I really want
What would you do differently given a second chance?
Zach: I would
definitely have opened the door to the submerged truck quicker. My
strategy for the last stunt was to have my opponent, Charlie, open the
doors to the armored car first and have him expend energy and air to get
it open. Then while he comes up for air, I was going to swim into the
truck first to get a head start but in the end, I wasted valuable time
by acting like I couldn't open the door because we could have HEISTED
MORE GOLD BARS if I had some more time on the clock. Secondly, I would
have hugged Angela at the end first instead of Joe Rogan because she's a
bit cuter but it was fun gettting him all wet!!
Angela:Grabbed more gold coins..........and then yelled to everyone of my
family members and friends by name on camera how much I love them and
then told the world how grateful I am to know a wonderful person by the
name of Zachary A. Cohen!!!!!
