Jackson & Monica soon took a flying leap and began their perilous flag transfer. It was smooth sailing until the gap between the two sides of the platform got to be a few feet wide - and the players started to get tired. Monica slipped and almost fell, barely catching herself on the platform's edge. On her return trip, she didn't make it… which left Jackson to complete the stunt. Unfortunately, Jackson fell on his next jump bringing their total to 19 flags transferred. It was a high amount, but would it be enough to win them both new Jeep Grand Cherokees? Meghan & James, who lost out on a million bucks by 15 seconds in the last couples' competition, were determined to be stronger, smarter and faster this time around. Meghan chose to wear a tiny skirt to perform the stunt. An interesting choice for any Fear Factor competitor, but especially bizarre considering the heights involved. No fear indeed. Both partners did well until the gap widened larger and larger. Meghan slipped off and was soon followed by James - who did a nasty split on the platform's edge. Ouch! The cute couple only managed to transfer 17 flags, which left Monica & Jackson still in the lead.
Adam & Meg, truly the most despised off all the teams, were up next. They wore matching green shirts, and Meg seemed to have something new to fill hers out. After all, they did win some cash last time around. Determined to beat their rivals, Adam & Meg started out strong. Meg fell at about the same spot the other girls fell, but Adam kept going. He slipped and clung to the edge of the platform trying to pull himself up as Meg yelled encouragement. Finally, unable to find the strength, Adam fell. Their total flag count was only 15 flags. Jim & Melissa, who got engaged right after last season's show, were up next. They also won Jeep Grand Cherokees last season, but had no problem with adding two more to their collection! After Melissa fell, Jim still had 5 more flags to transfer in order to beat Jackson and Monica. Despite a valiant effort, Jim slammed into the platform and fell with only 16 flags total.
Todd & Rachael were in the final spot, but what had they learned? It would be smart to run as fast as possible while the platform was still in one piece. Of course, it's easy to say that while sitting at home watching. Thirty seconds in, Jackson was saying "gimme my keys" - totally confident that the prize was his and Monica's. Soon after, Rachael fell, leaving Todd with 13 flags to transfer! Todd stumbled soon after, making Jackson's wish come true. Monica & Jackson had won the Jeep Grand Cherokees!
The sun shone brightly as the players arrived to face their second stunt on day two. The players watched intently as Joe showed them the stunt - which was to take place in a large water tank. The partners would be locked in a large cage together, but separated by a wall of bars. They would each have to transfer three keys from one side to the other. Each of the keys opened a lock. Once all three locks were opened on his or her side, the partners were free to swim to the surface and head towards a nearby buoy. During the stunt, the players would be able to come up for air when necessary; however, each pit stop would eat up precious time. Time would stop only after both partners had reached the buoy. Because they had won the first stunt, Monica & Jackson got to choose the order for this stunt. Not surprisingly, they chose Adam & Meg to go first. The two slowest couples would be eliminated!
Meg took extra time securing her bikini, but she must not have done a very good job. Early into the stunt, her suit came undone. She focused on that while precious seconds ticked by, then focused on her lock. Meanwhile, Adam still needed more keys from her in order to free himself. At one point, while both were resurfaced for air, Adam yelled at her to "get down there." She screamed back that she couldn't breathe. TV doesn't get much better than this, Fear Factor fans. Finally, the two freed themselves and swam to the buoy. Their disappointing final time was 4:20. Meg was in tears and could barely catch her breath. Jim & Melissa were next. Melissa admitted that Meg's freak out was "a little nerve wracking."
Jim & Melissa had a system: exchange keys, unlock lock, take a breath, repeat. This system worked well and they remained calm. Together they emerged and swam to the buoy with a final time of 2:04. Would Todd & Rachael do better? While they got ready, Adam & Meg rested on shore. Adam couldn't resist taunting his ex-girlfriend. He told her to throw away her bathing suit because it was bad luck. "Do you get guys with that bathing suit?" he asked. She replied, "I'm so BLEEPing over you, dude." Seriously, the real challenge would be hanging out with these guys for all four stunts.
Todd & Rachael, meanwhile, got off to a slow start and seemed to take a long break for air. As their time dragged on, Adam & Meg got more and more hopeful. However, Rachael and Todd managed to stop the clock at 3:46. Jim & Melissa were definitely IN for the third stunt. Jackson & Monica decided to go next, leaving James & Meghan to go last. As Jackson & Monica prepared for the stunt, Joe reminisced about officiating their Las Vegas Wedding! Once in the water, Monica had trouble with the first lock. She screamed at Jackson when she resurfaced for air, while he encouraged her to not give up. Maybe the fact that they had already won a million dollars made them less motivated, but Monica & Jackson quit the stunt! Once out of the water, Monica tried the locks again, and they easily opened. At least they had already one two Jeep Grand Cherokees…oh, and a million dollars. Oh, and a Las Vegas Fear Factor wedding. No boo-hoos for Monica & Jackson!
Meghan & James, the underdogs, were next. James got his first lock open easily, while Meghan tried all three with no luck. Uh-oh. She came up for air, then tried again - successfully. Finally, they were free and swam their little blonde hearts out for a final time of 3:40! Adam & Meg were OUT - and they seemed really, really okay with that. The three remaining couples were excited that not only had the rid themselves of Adam & Meg, but of their toughest competitors, Monica & Jackson.
Day three took place at a dark, creepy location which can only mean one thing: GROSS STUNT. And it was not only gross, but very messy. The guys had to siphon squid ink into a basin from which the ink would pour into their female partners' mouths (and all over them). The ladies then had to spit mouthfuls of the jet-black ink back into the guys' mouths so that they could spit it into a cylinder. Once the cylinder was completely full, time stopped. Once again, it was not an elimination stunt. The fastest team would win the Tony Hawk Underground 2 video game plus $20,000. Jim & Melissa chose Todd & Rachael (the "King & Queen of Gross") to go first. Rachael knelt in a Plexiglas box beneath the end of the tube, while Todd start sucking up ink. It looked like an oil well erupted on top of Rachael as she struggled to get mouthfuls of ink to Todd. Let's just say, the bathing suit started pink - and ended black. Their final time was 2:42. Rachael was disappointed with that time. James & Meghan were up next and Meghan was already feeling like she would puke. James got the ink flowing, while Meghan kept the flow going. She tried to keep her nose plugged the entire time, but didn't slow down. Their final time of 2:01 was a huge accomplishment for them both! Now it was Melissa's turn to climb into the vat of ink. She and Jim must have big mouths, because they seemed to be filling that cylinder rather quickly. They finished with an amazing time of 1:22! The $20,000 was theirs, along with the video game.
The final stunt was a doozy. A dizzy doozy at that. On the roof of a skyscraper, the contestants arrived to see a water bike. Yes, a water bike - like a Jet Ski. The kind normally used on water - not on high-rise buildings. The first part of the stunt involved retrieving the key to the water bike. The second part involved launching the water bike off the side of the roof! Jim & Melissa chose Meghan & James to go first. James would walk the slender "balance beam" in order to get the key. After sending the key down to Meghan, she would start the water bike and launch it - safely pulling off of it before it smashed into the concrete below. The goal was to hit the ground in the fastest time.
James, not thrilled with heights, was talking to himself to remain calm as he rose up even higher atop the skyscraper for the beam walk. He was very hesitant to get started, but eventually made it to the key. Meghan grabbed the key after it slid down the rope. She hopped on to the water bike and launched it fearlessly onto the pavement below. Final time, 45.2 seconds! Todd & Rachael thought Meghan and James did well, but said their time was beatable. Todd blazed across the beam and got the key down to Rachael super fast. Rachael gunned the water bike and hoped for the best. Final time: 32.2 seconds. James & Meghan were out. Jim & Melissa were on the precipice of Fear Factor victory. Could they do it? Jim got the key quickly. Melissa ran to the water bike and launched it. Final time…25.5 seconds! Jim & Melissa had WON the Fear Factor Couples Reunion.
