Todd & Rachael were next. On the very first flag, Rachael hesitated. She was shaky and Todd seemed total unsure of how to proceed. Adam & Meg's time ticked by before Todd & Rachael made it to the third flag; however, they kept going for pride's sake. At the fifth flag, James and Meghan's time ticked by. Joe joked that the 2005 Mazda's would be out by the time Todd & Rachael finished. Then Joe and the other guys flashed their butts to try to distract Rachael! Finally, they quit. Jackson and Monica saw this as an opportunity to steal a prize away from Adam and Meg. Monica, a former gymnast, seemed to show no fear atop the precarious beam. They blazed through the first four flags in 30 seconds. On the fifth flag, Jackson almost fell; however, they made it. On the final flag Jackson let the rope slip through his fingers and he and Monica plunged over the edge. Adam & Meg had won two new cars, which helped ease the pain of losing the Jeep Wranglers to Jim and Melissa earlier in the competition.
The next day was another non-elimination stunt. The prize was a High-Rollers Weekend at The Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, including first-class airfare, three nights in a luxurious penthouse suite, a courtesy limousine during the stay and $5,000 in gambling money. The stunt, however, was a doozy. The ladies would have to lie in a tank with over 400 live rats, while the men retrieved 10 chicken feet from within the tank using only their mouths. Once again, Meghan and James were up first. Meghan took her position and Joe dumped in a bunch of chicken feet. Then came the rats. Meghan managed to keep her cool, but said they were scratching and biting. For his part, James did not looked thrilled to stick his head into the mix, but he did. James sucked out the first eight quickly, but the last two were harder. His final time was 1:13.8. Adam and Meg were next. Meg started out confident, but as soon as those 400 rats were poured on top of her, she completely freaked out and starting screaming "I can't do this, get them off me!" Adam tried to calm her down, but Meg quit. Todd and Rachael were up next and while they got into position, Adam and Meg got into another fight.
Todd and Rachael were hoping to win the trip, because they wanted to get married in Las Vegas. Would that be motivation enough to beat James and Meghan's time? Rachael was totally calm as the rats crawled up and down her body, clawing and pooping along the way. Todd was definitely motivated and tossed in the last chicken foot for a final time of 41.2 seconds! Jackson and Monica were hoping to move even faster, especially since Jackson had never been to Vegas. They wowed the others with a final time of 35.2 seconds, earning them the fantasy trip to Las Vegas complete with $5,000 gambling money! Meanwhile, Adam continued to shoot daggers at poor Meg.
The final stunt was definitely an elimination stunt, which raised the stakes for four remaining couples. They gathered under the cover of darkness around a huge water tank. Suspended above the tank were four release cords. One team member would dangle upside-down from the cords while their partner dove into the tank to retrieve bolt cutters. Only after all four cords were cut and the suspended player hit the water, swam over to the side and released a flag would the couples' time be stopped. The fastest couple would win $10,000; the slowest couple would be heading home. For the third time, Meghan and James were up first. Meghan was suspended, each arm and leg tethered to a separate release cord. James swam quickly to release her. Once freed, Meghan dove head first into the tank and swam over to the release flag for a final time of 1:22.6. Good, but was it good enough? Todd and Rachael were up next and Joe questioned their plan to have Todd swim and Rachael hang. Rachael was confident that Todd would come through for them. He had both of Rachael's arms released in 30 seconds. But for the last two, Todd seemed to run out of air. He kept resurfacing for breaths, which cost them valuable time. Rachael finally released the flag for a final time of 1:24, not enough to bump Meghan and James out of the lead!
Jackson and Monica were pumped to go next and possibly win $10,000 - perhaps to put towards their Vegas wedding they were planning after winning the previous reward stunt! Monica was in the water in less than a minute, and stopped the clock at 1:02.1! Meghan and James were beat once again; and Jackson and Monica were definitely on to the next round of competition. Adam and Meg were last. Could they make up for quitting the previous stunt? Adam cut the ties, sending Meg swimming to the edge. Tears rolled down Rachael's face as she awaited Adam and Meg's final time. The time to beat for the cash prize was 1:02.1. Adam and Meg's time was 1:01.5. Jackson and Monica had been foiled again! Todd and Rachael were heading home.
