Episode 103 June 18, 2001
A desolate, desert highway greets our six players. It's a warm, windy day as Joe approaches them with news of their first stunt: The Semi-Truck Jump. Two 48-foot long semi-trucks will travel side-by-side, while a Fear Factor player rides atop one of them. When the trucks reach 40 miles an hour they will sound a horn. That's when the player must attempt to jump across the 7-foot gap between the two trucks and solidly land on the roof of the second truck. If they use their arms to assist in getting onto the roof (like if they land wrong and try to climb up)...they will be disqualified.
The contestants are confident, but Pam is convinced she'll be the only girl left standing at the end of the day. Sonia is first up. She releases tensions with a rebel yell before climbing atop one of the trucks. The horn sounds. Sonia takes off. She comes up short and slams into the side of the other truck! As she dangles between the two semis with the wind knocked out of her, the others realize how tough the stunt really is. Doug, however, makes it look easy with a quick frog leap across. Michael follows in his footsteps, an easy leap. Now it's confident Pam's turn. She steps, she leaps, she misses! Joe, a former high jumper, seems to be a shoe-in. But he loses his footing and lands with one leg. As he hoists himself up, he doesn't realize he has just been disqualified for not landing solidly. Joe Rogan breaks the bad news to him and sends Joe on the "walk of shame" down the highway. Only Amanda is left. A vegetarian chef, she wants the cash prize to open her own restaurant. As the sun sets on the empty desert, Amanda takes a giant leap of faith...and makes it!
The final three players arrive at a mausoleum for the second day's stunt. Joe, surrounded by candles, unveils a coffin-style, clear box filled with over 300,000 worms. The box seems to breath due to the constant movement of the squirming, creepy crawlers. And if lying in the box of worms for four minutes wasn't bad enough, Joe announces they may also have to eat some. There are three pieces of paper hidden in a jar of worms. One says "eat no worms," the second says "eat one worm," and the last says, "eat five worms." Vegetarian Amanda is visibly freaked out at the prospect of touching, much less eating a worm. Doug draws first and must eat - no worms! Phew! So, the next step is to get Doug in the pit. Doug covers his nose and mouth as four, huge containers of worms are dumped onto him. He swears they're biting him. Amanda is now on the verge of a nervous breakdown. She is next - and takes forever to stick her hand into the worm jar. Finally, she draws her fate: eat one worm. She quits and leaves in tears. Michael is undeterred and is relieved when he draws the "eat no worms" paper! He easily survives the worm pit, despite the little nibblers all over him.
The final stunt leads Doug and Michael to a wrecking yard. Surrounded by crushed automobiles and scrap metal, the guys learn that they will soon be human catapults! They will be attached to a bungee cord/slingshot contraption and launched over 100 feet straight up in the air. While in the air, they must shoot a paintball at a hanging target across from them. The one who gets closest to a bulls eye, wins. The catch is...whoever's not shooting, becomes the bulls eye! Doug is first and Joe tells him, "No more mister nice guy. There's the enemy. Shoot him!" Doug is hoisted into the air and launched. He fires, but only hits Michael in the right shoulder. Michael is pumped for payback! He launches, he shoots and he also hits Doug's right shoulder. Time to break out the measuring tape. Ultimately, Michael beats Doug's distance and claims the big, fat check.
