In the Snake Water Escape, contestants Shanti and Clayton would have to cut their way through a submerged rope vent in order to escape an enclosed tank filled with water and thousands of snakes. It was a harrowing experience that would test their nerves and their relationship.
FEAR FACTOR: So tell us about your reaction to the stunt?
SHANTI: I really wanted to cry.
FEAR FACTOR: It was really that bad?
SHANTI: Honestly, when all the snakes started getting all over me, I didn’t think I was going to make it. Like, my heart stopped. It was terrifying. Like, I’ve never been in a situation where I’ve had one snake on me, let alone, thousands of hundreds.
CLAYTON: And, when it came down to it, I don’t even think the snakes are that bad, it was just—actually, they were horrible. And, I got bit by a few.
FEAR FACTOR: So how did you manage to get through it?
SARA: We kept telling ourselves, you know, we swim in ponds, lakes, where there’s animals, crocodiles, snakes we don’t know about. And it’s probably just like that, except it’s clear—mostly clear water, and we can see tens of hundreds of snakes.
FEAR FACTOR: So how did that work out for you?
CLAYTON: Not so well. They were crawling all over us, trying to go up our suits. Over our heads. Through our ears. We just had to find a way to handle it.
