Last season in Las Vegas, when contestants ate cow, fish and sheep eyes, we realized that biting into a cow eye produces a fabulous juicy explosion. Using this knowledge, Fear Factor came up with a whole new stunt we like to call "Cow Eye Juice." Contestant Melissa Gable was lucky enough to experience this by picking up cow eyes with her mouth, grounding them with her teeth while squeezing their contents into a glass and then drinking the membrane fluid.
FEAR FACTOR: What was it like to grab a cow eye with your mouth?
MELISSA GABLE: It was gross picking it up and the texture of it was disgusting. It was just the technique of putting it in the back of your mouth and trying to pop it without it falling into the cup, so a lot of it was technique and it did taste gross.
FEAR FACTOR: What was your strategy for extracting the liquid from the eyeball?
MELISSA GABLE: You had to get a good grip on it with your teeth and pop it and then get all the juices in, 'cause the juices would fly in the back of your throat and would fly outside the cup, so it was hard to get the juices right in the cup. A lot of it was going down your throat, all in your mouth, so that part was definitely gross. It tasted kinda' salty and just like dirt water.
FEAR FACTOR: Did you focus more on the size of eyeball you picked up or the speed at which you going?
MELISSA GABLE: Speed and trying to get it in there. I think that's why I kept dropping them, 'cause I was trying to go too fast and I just needed to slow down, get the big ones, get as much juice in there, spit it out, do it again. I was just trying to fill the cup up. I was trying to go as fast as I could, because I knew the other contestants would try to go faster than that, so I was settin' the standard and I just wasn't really thinking about much but picking it up and going. I should have gone for the bigger eyeballs.
FEAR FACTOR: Did moving so quickly cause you any problems?
MELISSA GABLE: I was trying to go so fast that, I dropped one of the eyeballs in there, and trying to pick it up and shake the juices off was my mistake, because I should have just tossed it and kept goin'. I just didn't know 'cause I was the first person to go.
FEAR FACTOR: What would you compare the taste of a cow eye to?
MELISSA GABLE: There is nothing like eating a cow eyeball, so there's not much to say what it resembles, but it just was a squishy, chewy blah, and when it pops and it's gushing in your mouth, it was pretty gross, it was nasty.
