OSTRICH EGG

The ostrich egg is the largest egg hatched by any bird on earth. So just imagine how gross it would be to eat an entire ostrich egg raw. Fear Factor contestant Summer Papania recalls every gulp.

FEAR FACTOR: So, how was it?

SUMMER PAPANIA: It smelled horrible and it tasted even more horrible and it felt even more horrible than that.

FEAR FACTOR: Compare it to other gross things you've eaten before.

SUMMER PAPANIA: I don't eat gross things. That's the grossest thing I've ever eaten, honestly.

FEAR FACTOR: At first, it looked like you'd never get through it.

SUMMER PAPANIA: I gave up and psyched myself out after the first two sips, and I think that's what made it worse for me. I said, "I can't do this, there's no way. " And then, I just kept doing it and I kept gagging. I kept gagging so much because I kept psyching myself out.

FEAR FACTOR: Do you normally eat eggs?

SUMMER PAPANIA: No. I can't stand eggs. I've had scrambled eggs on rare occasions but it's not my first choice for breakfast or any meal for that matter.

FEAR FACTOR: Did it make it worse for you when your opponents started trash talking?

SUMMER PAPANIA: Yes. I was already feeling really negative and feeling really down about it -- so much so that I wanted to cry. They were talking about how bad it tasted and on and on and on like that. I just remember going, "Oh God, shut up!"

FEAR FACTOR: So they were making it seem worse than it was?

SUMMER PAPANIA: Oh no, they were being honest; it tasted BAD. But they didn't have to tell me; I already knew that.

FEAR FACTOR: How did this experience compare with other struggles in your life?

SUMMER PAPANIA: I'm telling you, this is the worst thing I've ever done. I felt physically ill and mentally ill because of this.

FEAR FACTOR: Do you think this will have a lasting effect on you?

SUMMER PAPANIA: Probably forever. I'm never eating another egg again. I'm not even looking at ostriches. I can't stand ostriches or eggs now.

FEAR FACTOR: What's going to happen when you go in the supermarket and see eggs?

SUMMER PAPANIA: I'm going to gag. I'm not going grocery shopping ever again. [LAUGHS]

FEAR FACTOR: Are people back home going to laugh at you when they see your struggle with the ostrich egg?

SUMMER PAPANIA: Probably. They're probably going to think I'm a weenie because of the gagging episodes. That's really embarrassing.

FEAR FACTOR: If you win, what do you plan to do with the $50,000?

SUMMER PAPANIA: If I win the money, I'm going to go shopping and I'm going to go partying. I'm not paying any bills with it or any debt. I'm not here to make money for charity or anything like that. I'm here to win $50,000 and go out and have a good time. Everyone always comes on this show and says, "I'm going to pay off my college loan" or "I'm going to pay off my debt." Screw that. I'm going to blow it.
