SEASON 2 SYNOPSIS On his first day as Benton's intern, Carter arrives late and unprepared, then develops an interest in new med student Harper Tracy. As the new attending, Greene learns that senior staff have it in for Doug, who treats a young pyromaniac. Tough new chief resident Kerry Weaver antagonizes everyone on her first day in the ER, especially Susan. While riding with paramedics for certification, Carol breaks through EMT Shep's tough shell.

Benton asks Jeanie to tell her husband Al about their affair, but instead she breaks up with Benton. Carter botches his first surgery, forcing Angela to step in. Chloe abandons little Susie to Susan's care, as Susan and Kerry's feud escalates, forcing Mark to step in. When Benton dislocates his finger, Angela replaces him with Carter and tells him to consult Jeanie. After dealing with an unruly patient, Carol and Shep share a kiss. Trying to save his marriage, Mark commutes to Milwaukee but finds he can't do it every day.
