Season 1

SEASON 1 SYNOPSIS Multiple casualties from a building collapse flood Chicago County General's ER, just as inexperienced med student John Carter starts his rotation. Under pressure from his wife, Dr. Mark Greene considers private practice for a much higher salary. Second year surgical resident Dr. Peter Benton succeeds in performing a challenging operation, and head nurse Carol Hathaway is brought in on a stretcher after a drug overdose.

While recovering, she endures an awkward visit with her ex, pediatrician Dr. Doug Ross. Despite reservations, Carol returns to work, where a wedding party suffers from food poisoning. Dr. Susan Lewis argues with her lover Dr. Cvetic over the fate of a senile patient. Carter treats flirtatious Liz's poison oak, then goes back to her place. Mark decides not to leave the ER, just as his wife Jen passes the bar. The two are caught celebrating in the ER bathroom.
