Miguel Ferrer
as Dr. Garret Macy
|
For Miguel Ferrer, the best part about playing forensic examiner Dr. Garret Macy on NBC's hit drama "Crossing Jordan" for the past five years has been that the character is a complex man who still manages to maintain a reasonable degree of normalcy.
Contrast that with the offbeat roles Ferrer became known for — his breakout performance as Bob Morton in "Robocop"; his FBI forensic expert in David Lynch's cult hit TV series "Twin Peaks"; and his drug dealer-turned-reluctant-informant in Steven Soderbergh's Oscar-winning film "Traffic."
Ferrer comes from an impeccable Hollywood pedigree — he's the son of movie star Jose Ferrer and singer Rosemary Clooney. He began carving his career path as a studio musician (his credits include playing drums on Keith Moon's "Two Sides of the Moon").
Ferrer has starred on the big screen in Paramount's hardball detective comedy "Where's Marlowe?" and lent his voice to Disney's "Mulan." He also can be seen in "The Manchurian Candidate" and two John Sayles films, "Sunshine State" and "Silver City." Other film credits include New Line's "The Man," John Badham's "Another Stakeout," Tony Scott's "Revenge" and "Stephen King's The Night Flier."
On television, Ferrer starred in the NBC comedy series "Lateline" opposite Al Franken. He appeared in the Emmy Award-winning miniseries "Stephen King's The Stand" and "Drug Wars: The Camarena Story." Ferrer has made notable guest-starring appearances on "Will & Grace" and appeared in the pilot for "ER."
In 2004, he made his New York stage debut in the Off-Broadway production of "The Exonerated," directed by Bob Balaban.
Ferrer added directing to his credits, working behind the camera on "Crossing Jordan."
In his spare time, Ferrer loves to participate in equestrian sports, play golf and ski. He is active in a number of charities, most notably the LAPD Memorial Foundation. Ferrer currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife and sons.
His birthday is Feb. 7.
