Lena Ledford - Single Mom

"Nobody's gonna be there for you like Momma"
My mother Lena Mae should be America's Favorite Mom because she truly is magnificent. She is the most loving, welcoming, funny, sensitive, humble, honest, loyal, compassionate and beautiful person one could ever meet. My mom has been a mother and father to my siblings and I for as long as I can remember. Providing food, shelter and love 24 hour a day, 7 days a week. She has raised me: a 24yr old college graduate, my brother: a mature 20yr old young man, currently raising two teenage girls 15 and 17 yrs old all of whom are her biological children and one child 6yrs old whom she has been caring for since infancy. Today at 45yrs old my mom dedicates her life to her children. She would give us her arm and leg if we needed it. Between her full time job, cooking dinner, my sisters basketball practice, singing lessons, night school and chasing after a six year old I often wonder when she has time to sleep. On top of all that, she has given us everything we have ever wanted. Oh, and she always has time to shower us with daily huggs and kisses. I think she's superwoman.

With two teenagers in her house she still manages to keep up with the times most recently learning the 'souljah boy' dance (which by the way is hilarious). I say still keep up with the times because even when I was younger my mom danced with me. I remember she taught me cheerleading when I knew absolutely nothing about the sport. She worked hard with me and I made the squad. She's always taught us we can come to her for anything no matter how big or small it may be because in her exact words "Nobody's gonna be there for you like momma". She's always encouraging us to do our best, strive for number one, and helping & backing us up with our decision making. She has always been a great listener and given us great advice.

My mother is the backbone to my whole family, extended too. She has opened her home and her heart to help people too many times to count. She keeps us happy and motivated. There would be no family without her. When i'm having a bad day, I just call my mom and she always makes me feel better.

When my mom's mother passed away the hardest thing I've ever had to go through in my life was to see my mother in so much pain. It was myself and my siblings turn to give back the support to my mother that she has always given us. This was truly a tough time for her, but she pulled through for the sake of her own children.

At the end of the day she is a part time vocal, basketball, cheerleading coach, a teacher, a counselor, a cook and still a full time mom. I am proud to be the daughter of Lena Mae Ledford. I would not give my mother up for anything in the world. She is my best friend and my inspiration. I love her with all my heart and if America met her I'm sure you would love her too!
