Mom gives kids "HOME SWEET HOME"
I,d like to nominate my wife for Americas Favorite Mom! We live in a small farm community Literally in HOME!
We have 7 children. 6 of them we have adopted over the last 4 years. 4 of these children were newborns exposed to methamphetamines in the womb and/or born meth positive. Our other 2 children (siblings) were 3 and 5 when they were adopted and also came to our family because of methamphetamines but in their case it was manufacturing. We both love our children very much and my wife is especially close to them as she was adopted as an infant herself. My employment requires me to be away from home evry other week for a full 7 days at a time. The week that I'm gone my wife "runs the show" completely on her own. Our childrens ages are 17,9,7,3,2,2,1 so you can imagine how hectic it can be with the little ones. Never ending diaper changes and very little sleep but she never quits and you can tell that all of our children love her for her endless energy and just her enthusiasm for life.
We also home school our 9 and 7 year olds. We enjoy watching them learn and I give my wife all the credit for what they learn at school. Even though her day is never ending she still finds time to send our extended family birthday cards and never forgets her friends as well. She also truly cares about all 3 of our adopted childrens birth mothers. She keeps in contact with them and has welcomed them into her heart and our home and is always willing to help them if they need her.
Because of our childrens drug exposure, Jennifer has become an activist to make using controlled substances during a pregnancy illegal here in Kansas. She has contacted our state representative and helped initiate Kansas House Bill 2602 making this a crime. She and I testified in Feb 2008 in front of the Kansas House in support of this bill to save the unborn from this form of child abuse. She is an advocate for the unborn and does public speaking engagements and Drug Endangered Childrens Conferences and is also involved with The Kansas Alliance For Drug Endangered Children as well as The Kansas Methamphetamine Prevention Project. We were nominated as a couple by our US Congressman Jerry Moran & received the "Angels In Adoption" Award in October 2007 in Washington D.C. She is involved in our older daughters high school activities and helps at church when she can.
There is a critical shortage of foster/adoptive homes so if my wife were to win the $25,000-she would use the majority to recruit more foster and adoptive parents and to raise awareness about drug exposure to the unborn. Please vote for my wife because I know she would be so honored for doing something that is often a thankless job. IT ONLY TAKES A MINUTE TO REGISTER AND VOTE! YOU COULD HELP MORE KIDS BY VOTING EVERY DAY! Thanks for voting!
Sincerely, Nick, Brooke, Brendan, Tori, Myah, Caty, Wyatt and Jett Keller
