The Nominees

Lisa Couture - COE "Chairman of Everything" Mom

My Love is Blind...
My wife Lisa is an amazing person who is the backbone of our family. She puts 110% into everything she does despite being blind. I don't know how we would survive without her. She puts everyone else's needs above her own and strives for nothing less than perfection in everything she does. She is an excellent mother to our three children and an outstanding wife to me. She is the main cook, cleaner and caretaker for our family. She cannot drive and yet she gets more accomplished than I could possibly imagine. I have been fortunate enough to be married to her for ten years and I love her more with each passing year. Lisa sacrificed her career to stay home before her vision caused her to start walking with a cane. For 6 years she went to school at night to obtain a MBA. All this was done during the years we had our children. She obtained a 3.8 GPA even though her vision deteriorated to the point she had to stop taking traditional classes and finish through directed study.

When her Dad had a quadruple bypass in 2005, Lisa was by his side the entire time, sleeping in a chair at night. Now, she continues to support him and take care of him. On December 13, 2007, her 35th birthday, she saved her Dad's life by recognizing he was having a heart attack, simply by the sound of a sigh he made. She spent her birthday in the CCU and never once said one word about herself; she only focused on her Dad and our daughter who was with them at the time. She also supported her Mom and helps her Mom and Dad in any way she can to make their lives easier.

But, her life is by no means easy. The everyday things we take for granted are extremely hard for her. She has to feel our children's hair to figure out who they are. She can only see a little out of her left eye. Even so, she takes care of our daughter by herself and even does homework with the two oldest with the use of very strong glasses, multiple magnifiers and by having the children spell out the directions to her.

This year, she has had a tough year medically and we have had a tough year financially. She tried to work part-time, but it made what little vision she has worse. Even though her friend joked you could see her computer screen from the space shuttle because it was so big, it was still not enough for her to see it. It pains her so that she feels she cannot contribute. But, through it all, Lisa keeps on a happy face and jokes about her life. This comes as no surprise to anyone who knows Lisa. Anyone who comes into contact with Lisa is a better person for it. I know I am. I only wish I could tell her more often how much love, respect and appreciate her. I sincerely hope through this nomination and hopefully if she receives this honor, I will... Her Husband, Ron
