One of the great things about New York, is that it’s home to many amazing artists. This is a 3 piece portrait of America’s favorite family, The Cruises. This Asian artist had his art set up on the sidewalk near Times Square. I took this photo around midnight. Street artists are the best. They do great work, and they’re open late. Only downside is – cash only & no refunds. But it beats those stuck-up Soho galleries – they’re way overpriced & none of them are open ‘til midnight.
But this dude in Times Square was open & he didn’t have an attitude. And he wasn’t just standing around showing off his art, he was sitting there working on new masterpieces. I like how he didn’t put the 3 of them together in one portrait. He made 3 separate portraits. That way if you want to buy the Cruise family portrait, you have to pay for 3 portraits, not one. Who would want just a Katie Homes drawing anyway? And they all look pretty freaky. I think these freaky-looking drawings show the Cruise family’s true nature: weird. In these portraits, Tom Cruise looks like he’s the Dad of the guy he played in Top Gun; Katie Holmes looks like she’s modeling for the cover of a Jackie Collins novel; and Suri looks like she’s missing. I would’ve bought the portraits, but I only had enough money for a slice and the bus back to Jersey. But I gotta tell you, as a guy who paints, these portraits have inspired me. In the next few weeks, I think you’ll see some new masterpieces from me.
