Katrina BowdenKeith Powell plays "Toofer," a straight-laced, Harvard grad writer on NBC's two-time Emmy Award-winning "30 Rock." Affectionately nicknamed "Toofer" because he is both a Harvard graduate and a minority (two-for-one), his character brings a sophisticated, yet sarcastic style to the writers' table.
A varied and accomplished artist, Powell became the country's youngest Artistic Director of a professional theater when he founded Contemporary Stage Co. in Wilmington, Delaware at 22 years old. At CSC, he has produced, directed, and/or performed in plays starring Lynn Redgrave, Keith David, Jasmine Guy, Richard Easton and Sean Patrick Thomas.
Other notable television and film work for Powell includes the upcoming film "Night At The Museum 2: Battle Of The Smithsonian;" a starring role on "Judy's Got A Gun" for ABC; "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and "Law & Order."
Upcoming projects include creating and directing "Whisper House," a new musical by Grammy and Tony Award winner Duncan Sheik ("Spring Awakening") with a book by Obie Award winner Kyle Jarrow. He is also writing and developing several movie projects.
Along with the "30 Rock" cast, Powell won a 2009 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Powell currently resides in Brooklyn and is a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.a
